So I like to listen to a variety of music either while relaxing, working, or playing. I have found that when I have positive memories when listening to certain songs, these songs make me feel good when I hear them. It's interesting how the mood I'm in makes me interpret songs differently especially since many songs use puns in their lyrics.
I can only control what songs I listen to, and depending on my mood I will put on different songs. I've actually noticed that many casual golfers like to listen to music while they play. They have a Bluetooth speaker in the golf cart. This goes against traditional golf etiquette because you are supposed to be still and silent when you hit. I find this intriguing because different songs, as previously stated, inspire you differently. I suppose if you hit good shots to certain songs, these songs may influence you when you here them. Music is made to impact your mind depending on what type of music you are listening to.
I also enjoy listening to music while snowboarding. Snowboarding is more of an art than a science, and I like to listen to all types of music while carving my runs. It also makes the time pass more quickly when on a chairlift.
Finally, music has a big impact when I am focused and playing poker. It makes waiting for a hand easier, and keeps me focused on playing "good" poker. I have recently questioned my control when it comes to gambling. I am mostly looking forward to playing winning poker while listening to equally compelling music.
GOD, GRANT ME THE SERENITY, TO ACCEPT THE THINGS I CANNOT CHANGE, THE COURAGE TO CHANGE THE THINGS I CAN, AND THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE.

Winter Blues
It's been a cold winter so far here in Connecticut. I haven't been snowboarding yet but hope to get up to Vermont for some fresh pow. I am still clean/sober now for 13 months but have really bad anxiety. Golfing and snowboarding are like my go-to activities so without them I'm getting real stir
My mental illness is a big part of who I am and I won't dismiss it as some unimportant detail. I have heard that schizophrenics get progressively worse as time goes on but I tend to be optimistic and think that I can beat it. Some people are on meds there entire lives but I hope to one day be med-free. I won't delve deep into it but fore the most part the meds don't work and I am constantly in a state of pyschosis. I hope that by obstainig from drugs and alcohol that will help me get my sanity back.
Golf is a great way to relax and recreate. I find that if I play good golf early in the round and then fall apart my mental game falls apart too. I get very overwhelmed and start to lose focus. However, most of the time when I play I am relaxed and having fun. I played a lot of golf last year and it was an up and down year as far as scoring goes. As I previously blogged I picked up some new irons. The only thing I'm missing "out of my bag" is a towel and golf shoes.
Snowboarding isn't something I've done my whole life- like golf is. I'm a terrible skateboarder but you don't need as much balance and you would think as a snowboarder. I picked up a skateboard two years ago but find it a very difficult sport. At least if you fall on a snowboard you don't usually get too beat up. I think overall snowboarding is more entertaining for most who do both. There is nothing like listening to a killer playlist while charilifting up a mountain. Some people can't stand the cold but if you bundle up its ok. Last year was the first year I didn't get out, but this year should be back to average.
I dida big of gambling in 2017. I think I may have even had an up year with winning bets on the Superbowl and running a free stake up to a $400+ cash out. Poker has been less productive, but I feel more confident in my game and less on tilt
Anyways. I feel good vibes coming out of 2018 and hopefully it will be a breakout year. Peace out homies.

On Pot and Rogan
So Joe Rogan recently did a "sober October" challenge for lack of a better term where he decided to quit pot and alcholol. He claims he feels fine, but doesn't it take a month for weed to get out the system of a chronic marijuana user. I would like to see how he feels the second month.
Now on the subject of pot I have always been pro-pot. He makes a good point in that marijuana is beneficial in many ways. I feel more optimistic and friendly after smoking. It is used in many cases to help illnesses when you look at medicinal marijuana.
My personal opinion is that I think at a "higher" level, when 'high' on pot, but on the contrary my memory isn't the greatest. Also, if you want to live healthy I think it is always best live on the bear essentials that you need, or not being reliant on any one thing unless it is clearly benifeting your heatlh.
I think at this point in time there has not been enough research to tell either way. Pot effects everyone different, but maybe this just depends on the strand you are smoking. Is it more or less beneficial?
There is always the point about CBD, a component of marijuana that helps in many ways. It should be interesting to see where marijuana legalization brings us. I suppose like most things it is made to be used in moderation

Golf, Shred, Live
Golf, Shred, Live
So its been a while since I posted. I've been busy with a new job as a dietary aide at a nursing home, but have still managed to play some golf and live the good life. In addition, I am ten months clean and sober, and haven't had a cigarette in two years after smoking since I was 16. I'll save more of my activities this past year in the 'live" rundown below.
Golf
My late grandfather, and my current father and grandmother all play golf. Also, I have uncles that golf, as well as many friends. I like to play a few different courses a year. I find it rewarding to play the same courses consistently. It gives you course knowledge which leads to lower scoring and more fun. I've played courses in Virginia, Florida, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. I would like to play a professional course before I die. Now that I think of it, I may have already when I was younger.
Being clean and sober and playing often has really helped my game. I posted a +3 and a +4 for nine holes so far this year. Last time out I played 18 and recorded two birdies. Anyways the golf season has been king to me as my father paid for most of my golf this year. I like to also play with my good friend. We all get along well and are in love with the game.
Shred
I haven't been on a snowboard in a couple years. I did purchase a skateboard to help with my balance. Hopefully this year will be snowy and productive on the mountains.
Live
Again, I've been living a clean and sober life. I got my own apartment on section 8, purchased a car, and got a new job. I've dabbled a bit in online poker and sportsbetting but am trying to give it up. As far as living goes I went fruit picking and have been watching a lot of tv. I also exercise a few times a week. I'm on a couple of powerful medications which have been holding me back a bit but I like to be an optimist.
I'm pretty disgusted with this post but its better then nothing.

Being an all around outcast- see below...
It shouldnt be a surpise that someone whose life revolved around gambling, drugs and other bad habits- and who suffers from a lack of self esteem turned out to be an outcast. While it is true that these things didn't directly cause this they are surely part of the equation. But isn't it true too that without these these things I would be an even bigger despair- perhaps. It seems like wherever I go these days, I am shunned away because I have landed on the railroad and can't pay the rent. Except for a few brief moments each day I am living in a world where whatever I do doesn't change my situation. I have learned that there is a lot of wiggle room though remembering too that nothing is promised.
I know none of this makes sense , that there is no point, and whoever is unlucky enough to be reading this both won't understand and won't care. I simply wish to be humble enough to say that for the record at this point I am towards the bottom and don't want to go down anymore. I wish I could quote the bible or make a clever argument but nobody reads this anyway so I shouldn't feel too bad. I will conclude with a short story and a bit of golf trivia.
I was having a good day on the course. It was beautiful weather with the sun shining out on the ninth fairway tempting you to crush the ball off the tee onto the short par fours green. After hitting a mediocore drive I reached for my pitching wedge but it wasn't there. "Oh S**t", I said to my playing partner, I must have left my club on the last hole. There was no one behind us so I wasnt pressured and I had time to catch my breath and plan my shot.
Suddendly from above I spot a drone flying over us and I stop before to see what its up to. It keeps going until it's far out of sight. So nothing happenes until I hit my approacah leaving a tricky birdie put. The drone comes back and I miss my putt. After seeing the drone I don't win a hole for the rest of the day. So at the end of the match I ask my opponent of he wants to go double or nothing if I can hit the drone throwing a club at it. He agrees and I smash the thing to pieces. End of story. I should say that I made this story up and it is pretty terrible but hey I tried.
Insurance agents have calculated that the chance of an avergage golfer making a hole in one is 12,500:1 while a pro is 2,500:1. Seems a bit too unlucky to me.

"Four"!, Summer, and Life
So I've managed to play golf a couple of times so far this year, both times at the "Apple Nine" course at Lyman Orchards. I probably should have yelled "four" on the easy first hole, but in the end, it didn't come close to hitting the group in front of us anyways. This is something I have talked about in the past. It is always good to air on the side of caution. However, it is also a good thing when you don't have to yell four.
The "par three" beginner course at lyman orchards, there is a lot of room to work on your short game. It also hosts a driving range, chipping green, and putting green. I warmed up on the putting green before my last round and did a little chipping around the putting green too. It paid dividends as I sunk a few par-savers and managed to pull a "sandy" off too. Although the course is flat, it provides a fun expierence where you can score low and have a good time or course.
The pga championship, the last major or the pga season, was a memorable one. One of the longest pga championships in history yardage wise, it delivered. At the end of the day, Jason Day clubbed out a record -20, a remarkable feet for the young aussie pro. It was his first major as he managed to beat the young phenom Jordan Spieth. Congrats to you, Mr.Day.
I got that summer time sadness because I haven't been golfing that much and the heat is holding me back. But overall, the weather has been great here in Connecticut. I want to start building my board for the winter, not literally, but it would be nice to have a nice setup come December. I have nothing much to say about snowboarding. In fact, if I had the urge, I would buy a skateboard to work on my balance. I have watched a little bit of skateboarding and biking on the X games this Summer. Those athletes seem to be blessed with more talent than even your more mainstream sporting pros. I think extreme sports are less popular than they should be. I guess because there is a limit on how far you can go when it comes to keeping you attention. Don't get me wrong, it keeps my attention, but some people just aren't turned on by it. Extreme sports do seem to be progressing however, as the athletes themselves continue to push the limit on their tricks and level of intensity. These guys eat, sleep, and breathe 'air', creativity, and style. I wish I could do some of the stuff they make look so easy. Always working on the next trick keeps me going back at it, man.
So my life has been hard and easy at the same time. I have chosen to pursue a "sober" lifestyle and it is really working wonders. I seem to have more time to work on the things that make me, well, me. Changing the environment where I live has been a big factor, as well as cutting out on illegal activities and mayhem. I still can golf and shred, which is great, but in a whole new light too.
I really enjoy T.V. more than the average person. I don't have access to premium channels at the moment, but T.V. is still T.V. I watched "Keeping up with the Kardashians" for the first time but don't really care for it. I also watched a bit of the series "Dating Naked- Playing for Keeps". This held my intrest but still isn't as great as some of the other stuff out there. I missed out on most of the summer movies too but that's alright because a new movie comes out every day. Anyways, I'll have to cut it right here for now, but until next time... "When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all."

The Ryder Cup, Waiting for Snow, Running
The 2014 regular season for Rory McIlroy was near perfect. He accomplished a lot and grew as a player. Rory has proven himself again and again throughout his career. The U.S. on the other hand, got spanked in golf last weekend. The Europeans took the United States 16 1/2 to 11 1/2. This is the norm for the Americans when the cup is held in Europe. Each year elected players represent either the U.S. or Europe and play golf matches against each other. There is also a captain elected for each side. The tournament starts like all other tournaments on Thursday and ends on Sunday. When playing matches, a new rule exists- if the ball is close to the hole one side can elect to "give", or concede, their opponents putt. This means that they can pick their ball up and automatically count it as "in". The strategy is to give your opponent a freebie in the early going, but near the end of the game make him/her make the short putts. This way it is harder to make the shorter putts later, because you've had no experience doing so in the early going. This also keeps the game exciting for those watching. Most people think golf is a boring sport to watch. That's because it is. It can be quite entertaining to watch in person though, because you have the chance to get right up next to the athletes. Here's a little trivia- The best athletes in the world play tennis.
That's all the claptrap (look it up) I can muster for now. My writing has been below par for some time now, hopefully one day I can really write something that makes sense.
Happy new year and cheers to Christmas lights, marriage, brushing your teeth, December birthdays, vacations in Australia, weighing ~185 lbs., museums, etc.
